Be An Angel for Adoption Campaign

Be An Angel for Adoption Campaign

| by Anneka Svenska | Posted in Vlog

The Angels for the Innocent Foundation (AFI) are pleased to announce our latest Campaign ‘Be an Angel for Adoption’.

In the light of millions of abused and dying stray dogs & other domestic animals worldwide we felt the need to highlight the fact that adoption is the way forward instead of purchasing expensive animal varieties from professional breeders and puppy farmers.

‘Be an Angel for Adoption’ features AFI founder Anneka Svenska & her rescue dog Zora who she helped save from Romania three years ago. The Angel in the campaign taken by Bread & Shutter Photography is representative of the adopter, as every time a person rescues or donates to stray dogs, they become an ANGEL FOR ADOPTION. They become that Angel to that dog.

Please watch our Campaign Video below:

The United Kingdom has hundreds of Dog Rescue Centres filled to capacity and some council pounds are euthanising dogs on a daily basis while people are still buying specially bred pure breeds for £400 . The most serious issue we would like to highlight is the fact that many dogs do not come from reputable breeders and many originate from cruel, disgusting and dirty puppy mills which are still in existence the world over. Here dogs are often kept in filthy excrement filled cramped small cages, sitting on wire for their entire life, with no socialisation, no vet care, no exercise and bred repeatedly until they die at an early age. When the puppies arrive at pet shops or are also sold through websites such as Gumtree, the buyer will never know where the dogs have originated from and unbeknownst to them are often supporting a very dark and cruel trade. Pup Aid’s founder Marc the Vet states ‘if you can’t see mum, then don’t buy’. If you are unable to verify the parents and are not allowed to see the puppy alongside the mum, then do not make that purchase. Many of the puppy farm puppies are bred from lines of dogs with no hereditary illness screening so as well as supporting a very dark trade, you will be encouraging the breeding of serious & life threatening conditions into dogs which can kill and disable them later in life.

Also, every time a person purchases a pure bred dog from a breeder, the life of a stray is lost. Many dog homes are simply unable to support stray dogs long-term and eventually their time will run out. These dogs are incredible dogs, so full of love to give, are equally as beautiful as any pure breed (many being pure bred themselves) and will sit alone behind bars while more new puppies are being created due to consumerism. Vets often euthanise dozens on a daily basis, many young, loving and beautiful puppies whose lives are only just starting. Many wag their tails as the vet puts the needle in, so trusting to us humans to the bitter end.

AFI are also keen to highlight the stray dog population worldwide and that as well as adopting from UK shelters, there are millions of stray dogs in dangerous countries with no animal welfare in place simply begging for a home abroad. Countries like Romania have thousands of strays on their streets who are rounded up by notoriously abusive & violent dog catchers, often beaten to death in the back of the van before ever reaching the public shelters where they are further starved, mutilated by amateur vets and finally euthanised in the most horrific and blood chilling ways such a bludgeoning, strangulation, injection with poison or paint thinners. In May 2011, The notorious mass genocide of Romanian’s strays took place in the Botosani state shelter resulting in 230 dead dogs in a matter of a few hours. 2015 has seen copy-cat dog genocide in state shelters all around Romania, with 164 dogs mercilessly killed at Breasta Shelter Craiova on April 29th 2015.

Because of this, AFI are happy to announce our collaboration with Romanian Charity RED PANDA who rescues stray dogs, beaten, sick and dying from the streets of Romania. Red Panda is one of the most respected rescue charities in Romania and provide immaculate rescue facilities and vet care for all of the strays in their care as well as fundraising for spay & neuter schemes and providing books to local schools on caring for dogs hoping to change the future generations attitude to dog welfare….. AFI has agreed to help fundraise for RED PANDA to aid them with additional food supplies, vet care, extra shelters and to support their current dog adoptions.

Please be an ANGEL FOR ADOPTION, adopt, don’t buy and save a life today.

Please remember to equally support your UK dog shelters as well as Dogs from Abroad. Just because a dog is in a lovely shelter in the UK, doesn’t mean it is in any way less of a danger, because of this Anneka Svenska is currently supporting Battersea Dog & Cat Home Appeal for their Long-stayers and writes a monthly blog on Anneka’s Green World in order to help find homes for British Dogs.
