As many people know, one of the main features of the London Vegfest this year is the People’s Vegan Activist Summit on the Sunday, which is due to host a number of speakers exploring a wide range of different issues in relation to veganism. So we are pleased to announce there will also be a feature of animal rights zines to accompany this wide ranging discussion, which is set to include the following pamphlets:
From animals to anarchism - An open letter taking a critical look at the politics of animal rights and animal liberation.
Animal Liberation and Social Revolution - A vegan perspective on anarchism or an anarchist perspective on veganism.
Nailing Descartes to the Wall: Animal Rights, Veganism and Punk Culture - Exploring the idea that veganism, and concern for the plight of animals are commonplace in punk. This zine investigates the issues and tensions from a UK context.
Challenging Ideas on Human-Nonhuman Relations - Essay on the ethics of the ways in which humans use other animals.
Some copies of the zines will be given away free at the event, and festival copies will also be available over the weekend for people to browse. In addition the display will also include printed material from the Orcas and Animals blog, accompanied with posters and information from the Vegan Intersectionality Project.
This brand-new display area within the Activists Summit adds a fresh dimension to an already illustrious array of activities which will satisfy an estimated 12,000 visitors with different tastes, needs and aspirations. Other features of the event include: 200 stalls for the shopaholics to stock up on their favourite vegan produce, 14 caterers with vegan food porn galore for foodies to savour, a People’s Vegan Health Summit on the Saturday with health experts, healthcare professionals and documentaries shedding light on plant-based diets and nutrition, dozens of Talks on other aspects of vegan living, Cookery Demos and Living Raw Food Demos giving you the tips you need to impress your pre-vegan friends in the kitchen, a Kids Area with cookery classes and magic shows for the little ones, a Mature Zone with vegan health info and refreshments for seniors, a Teen VGN Zone for teenage veggies and vegans to connect with each other, Comedy Hours, Music, a Bodybuilding Contest, Presentation Ceremony for the national VegfestUK Awards, plus more!
