VegfestUK - 10 Contributions to the UK vegan movement in 2015 - 3) Helping The Vegan Society, Viva! and Animal Aid

2015-12-04
| by Editor

For several years now, we have been giving free stalls, free promotion, free display space and free charity collections to our 3 biggest National groups – The Vegan Society, Viva! and Animal Aid.

All 3 run 30-day vegan pledges as well as huge vegan education campaigns and VegfestUK has been thrilled to support them all in our own small way, at all 4 of our events – Brighton, Bristol, London and Glasgow.

Free stalls and free promotion really help groups like these – and the chance to collect at the event has helped them raise thousands of much needed pounds to help fund vegan education in many and varied formats, as well as the opportunity to sell merchandise and make new contacts and attract new members and supporters.

VegfestUK events also provide a free platform and promotion for these groups to provide cookery demo experts, talks and presentations – and in the case of Viva!, organise their own Health Summits at recent Vegfests, including London and Glasgow ‘15.

All 3 of these organisations have been instrumental in the growth of VegfestUK over the early years especially, supporting us with stalls and sponsorship, and its been wonderful to return the support for them in the last few years.

Tim Barford, VegfestUK manager, is a paid-up life member for each of these 3 organisations (and recently became a Trustee of the Vegan Society, giving his time and expenses freely to the charity). And Tim remains a supporter of all 3, although he accepts that there are challenges ahead. “The UK vegan scene is changing rapidly,” says Tim, “and the movement is becoming more focused on vegan education and grassroots activity, and that is where the change lies, as well as in the continued all round growth of all things vegan. VegfestUK continues to offer its help and support in our own small way for all 3 groups and hopes to extend this further in 2016. I foresee a movement that has both a strong nationals and strong grassroots network of organisations working together to achieve the abolition of the exploitation of animals in the UK within our lifetimes.”

Alex Douglas of The Vegan Society added, “We’ve been fans of VegfestUK for years, attending the events with stalls year-on-year. We’ve seen VegfestUK  go from strength to strength and it’s great to now be specifically invited along to each event. Being a charity that encourages people to go vegan and which supports those who are already vegan, we really appreciate the support VegfestUK has given us in return - in particular this year and, looking towards the future, into next year! We were especially honoured to win a VegfestUK Award for ‘Best Lifestyle Website’ at this year’s London event too!”

Fiona Pereira from Animal Aid said, “Animal Aid has been  proud to be part of the Vegfest events for years and were especially delighted to be the Guests of Honour at Brighton this year. In addition to the generous offer of free stall space to Animal Aid, the organisers have also been hugely supportive of the vital work our Education Department performs and have  promoted this aspect of our campaigning at recent Vegfest events. What Vegfest offers is unity for those of us who are already vegan, as well as positivity and encouragement to those who want to make the change to a more compassionate lifestyle. And, it’s loads of fun!”

And finally, big big thanks to Viva! for all their support over the years. Viva! really have done a massive amount and we’re really grateful to their whole team for all the support for an untold amount of previous Vegfests.
