Who are A Well-Fed World?
A Well-Fed World are a USA-based hunger relief and vegan outreach organisation who chips away at two of the world’s most immense, unnecessary and unconscionable forms of suffering:
- the suffering of people hungry from lack of food, and
- the suffering of animals used and abused for food.
In addition to advocacy, AWFW partner with and assist groups to distribute vegan food to people in need, build food gardens in low-income countries, and strengthen farm animal care/rescue.
Those of you who came to our Brighton event just gone would not have missed AWFW’s big presence including their role in providing funds, sourcing speakers and moderating our first-ever Global Food Sustainability Conference (more details on the conference to follow in another blog...). These guys truly do amazing work in educating the public about the impact of their food choices both on animals and on humans, and they deserve a huge round of applause for the effort they put in on these issues. And big thanks to them for travelling all the way across the Atlantic to support our Brighton event too.
More on the Ethopian school lunch programme
Current food availability in many Ethiopian schools is sporadic and inadequate. Many children go without food and teachers even give some of their own limited pay to help.
Fortunately, because of Ethiopia’s large Orthodox population (who have long and dispersed periods of ‘vegan’ fasting), schools sometimes default to serving vegan food year-round, so no special permissions or procedures for vegan school lunches are required.
The program’s successes will be used to model improvements for other schools around the city.
For full details about the school lunch programme, visit their website here
In gratitude of AWFW’s kind support for us at Brighton and to further support their school lunch programme, we’ll be collecting funds exclusively for AWFW at our Bristol event on both May 23rd 24th at the Amphitheatre on exit. Please give generously to this fantastic organisation to help get et quality vegan food on the menu of school kids in Ethiopia, thanks!
