UK Vegan Comedy Festival provides waves of jokes & laughter at VegfestUK Brighton

| by Editor | Posted in Vlog

Last year’s UK Vegan Comedy Festival at VegfestUK Brighton brought loads of fond memories for our visitors – plenty of excellent standup acts loaded with good humour and excellent punchlines, and we’re delighted to announce that the comedy festival is back this year on the Sunday part of the VegfestUK Brighton event!

Here’s our full schedule of the comedy festival:

Sunday February 28th 2016 @ Brighton Centre (BN1 2GR)

11:00 - 11:15 - Mike Kelson

11:15 - 11:45 - Lou Sanders

11.45 - 12:30 - Jake Yapp

1:00 - 1:15 - Donal Coonan

1:15 - 1:30 - Sonja Quita Doubleday

1:30 - 1:45 - Alasdair Beckett-King

1:45 - 2:30 - Carl Donnelly

3:00 - 3:15 - John Robb

3:15 - 3:45 - Angie Belcher

3:45 - 4:30 - Andrew O'Neill

Mike Kelson

Mike, a vegan and an animal rights campaigner since school, is a relative newcomer to stand-up, although a seasoned live performer, having played over a thousand gigs over the years with band TUFF, who he still sings with.

Comedy appearances at clubs (including a number at the London Comedy club) and festivals in the last couple of years have helped hone his act however, and his cheeky style is a hit with varied audiences.

Lou Sanders

Lou Sanders has appeared on shows like Russell Howard's Good News & written for shows such as C4's Stand up for the Week.

**** Destined for hugeness TimeOut

****Very very funny, Chortle

Jake Yapp

Writer, composer and comedian, with writing and performing credits including Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe on BBC2, and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Jake spent 3 years working on the 6Music Breakfast Show, writing, performing and producing hourly songs and sketches.

Donal Coonan

Plant-eating Punchinello, described by the Radio Times as 'like a strange uncle'. Come and be his niece/nephew for 10 minutes.

Sonja Quita Doubleday

Sonja Quita Doubleday is Cheekykita an exciting, ridiculous, physical female comedian, who regularly performs on the alternative comedy circuit. There are not many female comedy performers as brave as Cheekykita, who is a master at the surreal and physical side of comedy (or whatever you want to call it. It sort of defies definition).

She has been performing comedy for the last three years with a background in Dance and fringe theatre also singing in many punk bands! This year she has solo shows at Leicester comedy festival, Brighton and Prague Fringe and also Edinburgh Fringe. She also performs in clown troupe Le Flop.

Alasdair Beckett-King

Alasdair Beckett-King is an award-winning and multiple award-losing stand up comedian.

He won the New Acts of the Year Show (formerly Hackney Empire) in 2014, and has performed comedy on BBC radio and at the Glastonbury festival. He knows quite a lot about 19th century magicians. Tourists often ask to have their photo taken with him, presumably impressed by this.

Carl Donnelly

Carl started performing standup in 2005 and quickly established himself as one of the UK’s most exciting young comedians. His conversational, silly sense of humour saw him win a host of awards (Chortle Best Newcomer 2007, Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2007 among others) and become a regular at the finest comedy clubs.

John Robb

Award-winning indie music mainstay, vegan frontman of punk rock band Goldblade (, music author of best-selling books including “the Stone Roses And The Resurrection Of British Pop and and Punk Rock - An Oral History”. John's also the boss of one of the UK's top 5 music culture website, and singer with

Angie Belcher

Standup poet, comedy actor and writer, equally at home headlining on the standup circuit as in a posh tent in a literature festival. Angie presents dirty stanzas and awkward observations about approaching 40 via Agnosticism, angry computers and puppies. Her live work is fruity and not for the faint-hearted.

Andrew O’Neill

Stand-up comedian, metalhead, amateur occultist and musician, Andrew's pretty much been a show off since birth! He's a vegan, as you can tell by the fact that he has a lithe, sinewy body. He's a heterosexual transvestite - he wears female clothes and fancies girls.
