The FxEctive Factor entrants and songs - Performances

| by Editor | Posted in Vlog

We’re excited to announce our final lineup of entrants for the Performance section of the FxEctive Factor on the Saturday February 27th 2016 at VegfestUK Brighton this year.

Many thanks to all our entrants for preparing their eagerly anticipated performances for this inaugural competition which celebrates creative peaceful forms of vegan outreach.

12:00 - 12:15 - Ian Haywood - Cargo of Shame

Ian is delighted to be playing at this event in this celebration of all things vegan.

He's honoured to have the opportunity to play his music to like-minded people, and he hopes that his music can help empower others in this evolution towards a more compassionate world.

Since last year’s event he's completed his 2nd album ‘The Beautiful Dream’ which is inspired by life, and by the natural and spiritual world around us.  Ian looks forward to sharing music from this album with you along with some of his jazz and boogie woogie piano.

12:15 - 12:30 - Philip Elston - Hunt Sabbing (poem)

Philip Elston is a vegan performance poet and trumpet player, who combines nature-inspired spoken word with his own musical compositions.

He has written for magazines and animal rights publications and, now based in Hampshire, he continues to write and perform his poetry.  In 2013 Philip graduated from Chichester College with a Diploma in Jazz Music.

From encounters with seals and adventures in the Isles of Scilly to the sabotage of fox hunts, expect a cruelty-free delivery of obscure observations and environmental verse interspersed with the warm tones of the trumpet.

Description of poem:

This poem is a reflection on my experiences as a hunt saboteur.  I started going out in the 1980s and continue until this day.  Latterly, sabbing has been undertaken post-hunting ban but still foxes, mink, deer and hares are pursued and killed, often with the police turning a blind eye. However sabs continue to make an impact and there have been prosecutions for unlawful hunting. Most hunt sabs are vegan and work in effective non-hierarchical groups to save wildlife. People are often so surprised that we still go out sabbing, believing that the ban is being enforced, and end up joining us out in the field.

12:30 - 12:45 - One Man And His Beard - Don't Exterminate, Vaccinate

One Man And His Beard has over the last 6 years sung at many protests including outside BBC to help save BBC6 Music, and to try and save BBC3 too, Lobby for Libraries at Westminster Hall to help save Libraries, Badger Protest outside Royal Courts Of Justice and Global March For Elephants And Rhino's in Liverpool and had first ever plays on Radio 1 last year with "Keep BBC3 On TV" song, many more protests to come this year!

Lyrics in link above.

12:45 - 1:00 - Pig Freud - Wish you were here

The world’s first guitar playing pig is entering the competition with one of his favourite tunes “Wish you were here”. Pig Freud embarked on his first-ever UK tour in Autumn 2015 gigging at altogether 5 volunteer-led vegan festivals, raising over £3,600 for 5 regional vegan educational projects worldwide.

Slowly becoming an ever-present at VegfestUK events, Pig Freud has also launched a pilot vegan “Justice for All” advertising campaign in Bristol and will be fundraising too at VegfestUK Brighton for this purpose.

Song to enter: (from 2:35 to 5:47)

1:00 - 1:15 - Jack Dean - Do you see

Having played guitar from his teenage years Jack Dean has spent the past 2 years playing open mics and shows around his local music scene honing his craft and developing a vast back catalogue of socially conscious spoken word indie/folk songs.

Song to enter:

1:15 - 1:30 - Möbius Loop - Living in the Milky Way

Möbius Loop create gloriously eccentric gypsy folk stories, fusing world music and conscious rap with eruptions of free-form dance charged with an intimately powerful and dynamically intense live performance.
