One of Europe's largest vegan food and lifestyle festivals VegfestUK welcomes a large variety of nationalities and cultures at its upcoming show at the Amphitheatre on Bristol Harbourside on May 21st 22nd 2016, which is set to draw around 15,000 visitors overall.
The multicultural aspects of the show begin with a conveyor belt of sumptuous vegan food, which has been the biggest draw of VegfestUK events for many years. From Asian classics such as sushi rolls, Indian curries, Thai street food, Chinese stir fries and mock barbecued meats, to Nigerian cuisine, Spanish paella, crêpes, churros laced with vegan chocolate, Caribbean stews and plantains, Moroccan stews, falafel wraps, Mexican food, pizzas... eating at VegfestUK Bristol is almost like dining around the globe on one weekend!
The global influence continues with the fine selection of headliners in the evenings which are set to wow a massive crowd with an uplifting cocktail of house and reggae music. The evening lineup includes big-hitters such as original house DJ Marshall Jefferson and soul/jazz singer & dance diva Alison Limerick (renowned for her chart-topping single “Where Love Lives”) on the Saturday, followed by vegan reggae icon Macka B on Sunday who will be joined by Afro-Caribbean singer/songwriters Celestine and Sabrina Chyld. Meanwhile, the daytime acoustic music includes Spanish guitar duo De Fuego who'll entertain the audience with their energetic instrumental flamenco and rumba-based music.
VegfestUK further extends its welcoming hand to speakers from around the world. Vegan chef Nishma Shah, founder of London-based vegan catering company Shambhu's, and of Kenyan-Indian origin, will perform a cookery demo on some of her favourite vegan dishes from her vast experience in catering and cookery demos. Joining Nishma is vegan blogger, TV Presenter and author Kirly-Sue, born and raised in London to Jamaican parents, who will showcase her cookery repertoire reflecting her Jamaican heritage.
Further, Vegan Publishers staff publisher Christopher-Sebastian McJetters will be shedding light on two important topics, namely the danger of wearing veganism as an identity, and circumstances that make veganism a challenge. Brazilian-born vegan traveller and blogger Glauce Lucas who runs the foodie website All About Vegan Food is coming all the way from Ireland to speak on raising children on vegan diets. And Jainist vegan activist Sagar Shah will be running a workshop on Jainism, Ahimsa and the vegan movement in the Jain community. They'll be joined by vegan monk Swami Bhakti Kamal Tyagi who resides primarily in India and who'll host a discussion of history, ethics, and values concerning modern day veganism at the event.
And the 180 stalls on display during the event consist of some truly illustrious exhibits with influences from around the planet. These include raw vegan snacks and superfoods from the Czech Republic-based Lifefood, vegan-themed clothing from both Belgian team Bazaar De Luxe and Italian company Chiaralascura, raw vegan chocolate from Australia-based firm Pana Chocolate as well as tofu-based “turkey” from USA-based firm Tofurky Ltd and volunteer trips to Tzaneen, South Africa, offered by primate conservation charity Vervet Monkey Foundation.
The multicultural influence at VegfestUK events will continue at its London edition on October 22nd 23rd 2016 at Olympia London which is expected to draw at least 12,000 visitors. In addition to having a large variety of vegan speakers from all walks of life, the event also plays host to a first-ever Pro-Intersectional Vegan Conference in the Sunday part of the show. Further information on this conference will be announced in due course.
Admission to VegfestUK Bristol is by both advance tickets and payment on the gate. Advance tickets are priced at £5 per day and £8 for the whole weekend plus small booking fees. Tickets on the gate are priced at £8 for adults and £4 for concessions. Kids under 16 get free entry.
