Interest in Veganism Doubles again since April 2015

| by Editor

Google trends reveal that interest in vegan diets has doubled again in the last year with a dramatic increase in sales of vegan foods and goods.

Tim Barford, founder of VegfestUK, says, ‘’We are always looking to tighten our criteria to ensure more vegan promotion, and whilst we accept bookings from companies that aren’t vegan, we only allow vegan items to be displayed and promoted at our events. We are thrilled to see more and more businesses adopt a vegan only direction, and will continue to support those looking to go 100% vegan in the near future.’’

It's hard to dispute that. There’s not enough time for tiptoeing around on this matter, not just the planet but world financial institutions will self-combust if more people don’t act immediately and adopt a drastically more vegan lifestyle.

Going vegan is achievable for everyone –  even if you have weird rare medical conditions, plant-based biochemists have found therapeutic strength alternatives in nature, low down the food chain, for Omega 3 EPA and DHA (from algae), Vitamin D3 (from Litchen), Vitamin B12 (from yeast) and hormones from plants. Almost weekly another high performing vegan athlete pops up and admits that their new found success is due to a strict vegan regime – even boxers, cage fighters and strongmen.

Vegan recipes are featured everywhere even in media with traditionally opposite views such as the beefcake mag Men's Health that recently featured a double page spread of vegan recipes.

At the VegfestUK Health Summit at London Olympia 2015 one of the UK’s leading dietetic experts Emeritus Professor of Dietetics Tom Sanders from King’s College London revealed that “providing vegans avoid increased levels of salt found in some new processed convenience vegan foods and ensure they have reliable plant based sources of vitamin B12 and essential omega 3 fats in their diet ,vegans can be one of the healthiest groups of people on the planet”.

Leading Nutritional Therapist (recently on BBC1 Truth or Scare) Yvonne Bishop-Weston says “There is no key nutrient that you cannot get from plants. To suggest that you must eat beef and drink milk whilst ignoring the realisation that cattle must derive all their nutrients from the plant foods farmers feed them and sunshine takes a certain amount of flawed scientific thinking. Also the notion that you can expect meat and dairy to have the same levels of nutrients in it as the days before animals were raised in sheds with no natural sunlight (vitamin D?) able to graze on wild leaves rather than grains (essential fats?) on fodder grown in mineral depleted soil (selenium?) and routinely administered anti-biotics (Vitamin B12?) seems equally suspect.”

If you are eating meat then don't kid yourself, you are eating it for pleasure not for health reasons and there are so many pleasurable delicious vegan alternatives that any excuse becomes more and more.

Following revelations from the World Health Organisation Dietitians are now revising their recommendations on meat suggesting we should only eat meat twice a week and avoid any processed meat like bacon, cheap sausages, hot dogs and burgers. “Meat only 2 days a week is 5 days a week even better than the Meat Free Monday Campaign which by default sanctions eating meat 6 days a week!” says VeggieVision founder and TV presenter Karin Ridgers. “The world is suddenly going bonkers for vegan food and that gives me hope that we might just turn this world around before nature decides to press delete on the human race in an act of back against the wall self-preservation!”

VegfestUK vegan events are currently at major venues in Bristol (May 21st 22nd 2016), London (Oct 22nd 23rd 2016), Glasgow (Dec 3rd 4th 2016) and Brighton (Mar 11th 12th 2017) and support smaller regional grassroots vegan events. VegfestUK London will feature a Health Summit for health professionals wishing to update their knowledge on Dietetic Science and evidence based research. VegfestUK London will also host a Vegan Athlete Convention with leading vegan athletes revealing the secret of their success.
