Fancy an energy boost, radiant skin and eating to help balance your blood sugar? Baobab is just the ticket and I will be showing you how to incorporate this superfood into recipes on Saturday at Vegfest. This popular superfood from African is not only incredibly nutritious but also incredibly sustainable so by purchasing it from an ethical supplier (such as Aduna), thousands of communities are supported. If you're not familiar with this superfood, it comes in powder form and has a zingy citrus like flavour and tastes fresh and light. It can be used in both sweet and savoury recipes and contains pectin so it a natural thickener when added to smoothies and sauces.
Baobab is packed with Vitamin C which not only boosts our immune system, also helps with the formation of collagen which we need for healthy skin, bones, teeth and hair. 10grams of Baobab can provide around a third of our daily Vitamin C requirement.
Baobab contains more antioxidants than any other fruit so it's amazing at helping to prevent free radical damage which can cause dry skin, premature ageing and wrinkles.
Baobab is full of polyphenals which are beneficial in reducing a glycaemic response so it's helpful for anyone with hypoglycaemia or diabetes. It also has a high fibre content which is great for ensuring a slow release of blood sugars into the bloodstream. Fibre helps us to feel full for longer so it can also be helpful in weight management.
Come along to my cookery demo on Saturday from 12:00 – 12:45pm to sample baobab & sundried tomato crisps, courgette baobab hummus and golden milk made with pumpkin seeds, cardamom, turmeric & baobab.
