#VegfestUKAwards2016 updates (up to Sept 25th 2016)

#VegfestUKAwards2016 updates (up to Sept 25th 2016)

2016-09-25
| by Editor | Posted in Awards

Many thanks to all those of you who cast your votes for your favourite vegan products, groups, individuals etc. over the past 8 weeks, ever since voting for the awards went live on August 1st 2016...

There have been over 6,000 voters with an average of 2,00o votes cast in each of altogether 16 categories, which shows the level of interest there currently is in all things vegan. There have been a few captivating battles developing over the past 8 weeks too...

Best Vegan “Meat”

A number of new and unique vegan meat substitutes are doing nicely so far, with companies such as Taifun, VBites, Sgaia, Tofurky, Gillie Foods and Vegusto shooting up in the poll and developing a close contest with previous winners Fry’s Family Foods in this category. Gillie Foods and Sgaia have in particular been the surprise packages in this section challenging for top spot with less than 1 week to go.

Best Vegan “Cheese”

What is many would-be vegan’s dream – dairy-free replacement of their beloved cheese – has yielded more than 2,150 votes so far and Violife has stormed into a commanding lead. Special mentions must go to the many independents who have quietly gathered an impressive amount of votes since voting began.

Best Vegan Bodycare / Cosmetics / Housecare

This category has proven to be a close one to call, with the variety of products on show making this category an interesting contest. First up are the trio of Astonish, EDEN Perfumes and TheVeganKind, with Heavenly Organics, Living Naturally and Bohemian Chic Minerals not far behind...

Best Vegan Bakery / Raw Cakes

This is one of the most popular categories with vegan cakes being one of the biggest attractions for anyone vegan or contemplating switching to a plant-based diet. Last year’s winner The Vegan Cakery is once again looking strong alongside old favourites Ms. Cupcake. Special mentions to all the independent vegan cake makers for their effort in making veganism look so pretty and tasty with their creations!

Best Vegan Drink

The drinks section sees a great start by Oatly, however in the 2 weeks since our last update, we have seen great strides made by the quartet of Fentiman's, Rebel Kitchen, Vita Coco and GOOD Hemp which are making this section more and more unpredictable.

Best Vegan Clothing

What could be a really effective form of vegan activism is fabulously showcased by a number of vegan clothing manufacturers in this exciting category. We could be looking at a 5-way battle in the remaining days when the vote is still open, with Viva La Vegan, All Glamour No Guts, Chiaralascura, Ethics and Antics and Wear Your Voice all so close to the top! Big thanks to every producer involved for bringing through such fantastic vegan clothing options!

Best Vegan Athlete

A stunning collection of athletes thriving on vegan diets in this category see vegan marathoner Fiona Oakes having a respectable lead at the top with vegan boxer David Haye and strongman Patrik Baboumian still in with a chance.

Best Vegan Restaurant

Another captivating category of quality contestants sees the leading quartet of V Revolution, 222 Veggie Vegan, El Piano and Rootcandi slowly pulling away at the top and yielding an intriguing last few days of rallying for everyone involved. Don’t forget the other special nominees who are producing sumptuous vegan food all across the country for everyone interested in veganism, whatever the final result!

Best Vegan Caterer

Anyone looking for a surprise result – don’t take your eyes off this category! Currently 8 caterers are still in with a chance of sealing victory in the last few days of voting! Thanks to all the caterers nominated for churning out delicious vegan food at vegan fairs across the country – you’re all stars!

Best Vegan Blogger / Info Website

The reigning champion in this category, The Vegan Society, is right up there in the mix again with the likes of Fat Gay Vegan, Viva!, Veganuary, Animal Aid and Vegan Lass making this category very difficult to call indeed at the moment. Anything could happen in the last week of voting.

Best Vegan Footwear

Old traditional favourites Vegetarian Shoes are narrowly leading the chase from a couple of more nouveau brands in Wills London and Ethical Wares, along with what are currently looking like 3 dark horses to sneak into the mix, namely Beyond Skin, Eco Vegan Shoes and MacBeth.

Best Vegan Snacks

Goody Good Stuff raced into the front with a head of steam over the past 8 weeks, however we should not rule out any late drama with recent surges made by the likes of Pulsin', Ananda Foods, Rawlicious and Essential Trading.

Best Chilled Vegan Product

Firm favourites Booja Booja are looking strong once again having established a foothold at the summit of the Chilled Vegan Product league, however with the surges made by a number of nominees over the past fortnight, never say never for the other quality nominees such as Pudology, Ice Green, Smooze, CocoNuts and Co-yo.

Best Vegan Chocolate

The raw vegan chocolate duo of The Raw Chocolate Company and Ombar are exceeding expectations so far with the 2 of them leading the chase of defending champions Moo Free Chocolates, with Plamil Foods, Conscious Chocolate and Cocoafeliz not far behind the chasing pack...

Best Vegan Vlogger

One of the new additions to this year’s Award Categories sees Vegan Fitness TV racing into a healthy lead over the past 4 weeks, but with the sheer calibre and reach of the nominees in the chasing pack, no one would rule out the possibility of The Vegan Activist, Compassionate Living, Vegan Geezer, The Friendly Activist and Plant Based News upsetting the current apple cart!

Best Innovative Vegan Product

Another new addition to this year’s Award Categories sees some new, up-and-coming and innovative vegan products. The long overdue launch of the vegan edition of Quorn has certainly had many heads turned when it comes to voting, and so has the UK’s first vegan pizzeria Purezza, Koko Dairy Free’s very own coconut dairy-free yogurt, and Follow Your Heart’s vegan egg replacer.

There are plenty of quality candidates in every category too and with 5 valuable days left before voting shuts, they would all love your support with your vote!

Voting closes at midnight sharp on September 30th 2016.
