It’s been 6 weeks since voting for this year’s #VegfestUKAwards2016 went live, and so far we’ve got lots and lots of interest, dynamic marketing campaigns for votes from our nominees as well as loads of good word of mouth for not only our excellent nominees but also vegan products in general...
An average of 1,700 votes have come in for each of our 16 categories – with 3 weeks of voting still to follow, a lot of ups and downs could still happen. So we call on all our lovely nominees to keep up the promotion and get your followers voting!
Anyway, here is a short summary of how voting has gone so far... (a more in-depth round-up, including those categories who are not mentioned below, to come in 2 weeks time)
Best Vegan “Meat”
Good to see strong performances from independent producers such as Gillie Food, Dragonfly Foods and Sgaia Foods, who are definitely not far from the summit at this point and still in with a chance of scooping the much-coveted trophy.
Best Vegan Bodycare / Cosmetics / Housecare
One of the closest categories we’ve got in that literally every nominee has a chance of winning at this current moment! Special mentions to Tropic, Honesty Cosmetics and Yaoh who are rallying hard over the past couple of weeks to catch up with the leading pack who might start looking over their shoulders in the run-in to the end of voting!
Best Vegan Drink
Whether you’re into alcoholic drinks or not, or whether you’d like a health kick or indulge in a sugar boost, there’s such a huge variety of drinks to choose from, which is reflected in this particular category. Whilst it’s great to see brands such as Rebel Kitchen, GOOD Hemp, Vita Coco and Oatly entering supermarkets and being so accessible nowadays, it’s also worth giving special shoutouts to independents such as Fentiman’s, Equinox Kombucha, Pitfield Brewery, Pure on Raw and Club Mate, who are quietly picking up extra votes as we speak and are still within touching distance of the top of the league table at this current moment in time.
Best Vegan Athlete
One of the new additions to our awards sees 10 highly achieving vegan sportspeople mixing it up with each other in the quest to be crowned Best Vegan Athlete come VegfestUK London, where you can actually meet some of them face-to-face at the inaugural Vegan Athletes Summit on the Saturday October 22nd 2016. It’s certainly uplifting to see so many athletes rising up from underground over the years to achieve so highly and debunking resoundingly the myth that we need animal foods to stay fit and strong. Pre-voting favourites David Haye and Peter Ebdon are seeing a huge challenge from the 8 others and all it takes for the standings to change dramatically is a late rally by any of our nominees.
Best Vegan Clothing
What could be a very effective form of vegan outreach – namely clothing – sees 10 quality vegan producers competing for the top gong. Some recent pushes for votes sees a handful of independents creeping up the table, such as Vegorium, Greenlife Underwear, Jade Green Vegan, Bohohemp and Hempish. Well, when it comes to this particular contest, it’s never over till it’s over!
Best Vegan Caterer
The hardest contest to call at the moment without a doubt, with only 153 votes separating top from bottom! Maybe this shows the variety and even distribution of food preferences we’ve got in the vegan community? Showing how diverse vegan food really is right now? One thing’s for sure – whichever vegan festival you’re going to visit in the coming months, you will be absolutely spoiled by the sumptuous food produced by some of these caterers!
Best Vegan Blogger / Info Website
One of our most voted for categories so far sees an interesting mix of national vegan groups and grassroots independent advocates all vying for the top trophy by promoting veganism in their own unique ways online. Every single vote is going to be hard-earned with the sheer quality of materials we’ve witnessed over the years from our nominees. Expect the unexpected in the remaining days to come!
Best Vegan Vlogger
One of the most dynamic additions to this year’s awards sees 10 quality innovative vegan vloggers producing a series of captivating and absorbing video content as one of the best forms of DIY vegan activism at the moment. With the instant effect of a snappy video on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube these days, nothing is definitive (especially with the votes so far) in the final 3 weeks of voting!
Whatever the result is at the end, big congratulations to every nominee and big thanks too for putting yourselves out there and being positive shining lights for veganism!
If you haven’t voted yet, what are you waiting for? With voting closing at midnight on September 30th 2016, make sure to cast your vote at the link below before it’s too late!
And also don’t forget that we’ve got a new category called “Best UK Vegan Sandwich Award”, in which you get to vote for the vegan sandwich variety that you’d most like to see in high street chains in the UK to account for a lack of vegan sandwich options currently – click here for details and voting.
The results will be announced at the Awards Ceremony at VegfestUK London – taking place on Saturday October 22nd 2016 (time TBA), with trophies presented by Karin Ridgers of VeggieVision TV alongside John Robb (of Goldblade and The Membranes).
The next – and final – update on the awards will be released on the week commencing Monday September 26th 2016.
