Vegan Festival of Britain to celebrate Animal Aid's 40th anniversary from May 20th - June 10th 2017

Vegan Festival of Britain to celebrate Animal Aid's 40th anniversary from May 20th - June 10th 2017

2017-04-25
| by Editor

2017 is the 40th anniversary of one of the UK’s biggest vegan and animal rights groups Animal Aid, and to celebrate, they have organised an ambitious and exciting new initiative – The Vegan Festival of Britain (VFOB) – which will take place from Saturday May 20th to Saturday June 10th 2017.

What is VFOB about?

Drawing inspiration from the historic Festival of Britain, the VFOB will be an umbrella for a large number of exciting vegan events taking place all over the UK. Animal Aid’s aim is to harness the incredible creativity, talent, energy and commitment within the UK vegan community, and inspire businesses, cooks, campaign groups, local campaigners and individuals to ‘do their own thing’ during the three-week festival. This could be something quite public, such as an event, promotion or street party, or a more intimate occasion like a pot-luck supper or pop-up meal. You might persuade a local restaurant to create a dedicated menu or promotional evening, or some shops to highlight their vegan lines. Or what about something at work or school/college, like a coffee morning or sponsored event? Alternatively, you could simply invite neighbours or friends over for a meal, a slice of cake or a small party. Perhaps your strengths lie more in social media and online innovations? Everybody has something to offer.

Already there are plenty of events organised in several cities during VFOB. You can read more about these and the ideas behind VFOB on their designated website. Animal Aid also have a dedicated Facebook page for the Festival, and they would like you to take up the idea and run with it! If you are organising an event during that 3 week period, make sure to register your event with VFOB here.

VFOB launch at VegfestUK Bristol 2017

Animal Aid are launching VFOB at VegfestUK Bristol 2017 on Saturday afternoon May 20th 2017 at the Amphitheatre, with a giant vegan cake for the official festival launch at around 12:45pm on the Main Stage.

Big thanks to Veggies for baking the cake, and Natural Balance Foods for sponsoring the cake, and big welcome to Bristol East MP Kerry McCarthy for coming over to cut the cake herself. Enjoy your free taster before the cake is distributed to the Bristol public to show pre-vegans what they’ve been missing!

Show Me Love Party

The VegfestUK team are also hosting a special Show Me Love Party on the Saturday evening to tie in with Animal Aid’s 40th anniversary and the launch of VFOB, with a number of big-hitters such as Robin S, Danny Rampling, Rozalla and Nicky Holloway gracing the Main Stage that night. Don’t forget to get your tickets here and invite many of your friends to the Amphitheatre on a special day out for all.

Big thanks to Essential Trading Co-operative and Yaoh for sponsoring the Show Me Love Party.
