Global vegan feast hits Olympia London as VegfestUK returns for 5th year on Oct 21st 22nd 2017

| by Editor | Posted in Vlog

One of the UK’s biggest vegan festivals VegfestUK London will once again boast a large variety of eclectic and globally inspired vegan food to demonstrate resoundingly that eating vegan is not only delicious but also cool and fun at the same time. As well as convincingly smashing the myth that vegan food is bland, inviting everyone to eat vegan is one of the most effective ways to bring people through the door to a vegan way of life, and where else to do this than at VegfestUK London with up to 15,000 vegan-hungry visitors expected?

Eating at VegfestUK is akin to being in a vegan food heaven with a fast assembly line of mouthwatering vegan food beauties being prepared live from 23 different caterers with styles and techniques originating from all over the globe.

Although vegan sushis are getting more and more mainstream and popular, to be able to freshly roll out sushi makis bursting with flavour and sauce whilst giving them a meaty interior is something of a niche still. VegfestUK regulars Happy Maki, who are becoming a food festival fixture as well, tick all the boxes in this respect with their inventive and rotating vegan sushi menus with ingredients ranging from sweet potatoes, mock “duck” and “chicken” to deep-fried tofu, avocado, cucumbers, all mixed with juicy and refreshing marinades and seasonings to leave everyone transfixed and ready for more.

One of London’s most popular vegan restaurants 222 Vegan Cuisine will be out in force at VegfestUK with a specially prepared menu for everyone looking for something different in eating vegan.

Caribbean food fans will have plenty to look forward to from the Brownins team who will be serving a range of flavours from the global African/Caribbean experience of spices and herbs, including: the Veggibab (instead of kebab) wraps, Veggie patties, salad buffets, and other main cultural dishes.

For those looking for Asian flavours, Chaatit will provide exquisite Indian vegan street food virtually from streets of Mumbai to you. ‘Finger licking’ dishes include Masala Chips, Samosa Chaat and Thali consisting of Veg Curry and Rice. Indulgent plant-based Vietnamese-inspired food awaits at the Eat Chay stall with menu including baguettes with spicy Korean BBQ seitan, noodle salads with lemongrass black bean patties, sushi sandwiches with braised jackfruit! Another VegfestUK regular World Food, meanwhile, will be wrapping up gigantic falafel wraps and salads.

Even dedicated carnivores will have a field day devouring vegan versions of  “meaty” burgers from Hempen, Pomodoro e Basilico and The Dutch Weed Burger, BBQ pulled jackfruit bun and vegan döner from Herbivorous and What the Pittaas well as “steaks” from Jake’s Vegan Steaks, Spanish rolls filled with homemade “chorizo” or Spanish “omelette” from La Buenaventura, and freshly fried hot dogs with a liberal amount of ketchup and mustard drizzled on top from Vegusto. You can also buy your favourite vegan meat for cooking after the event from the likes of Tofurky, Vegusto, Bute Island and many other vegan meat producers at the event. Who says being vegan necessarily means going without?

Cheese is arguably the hardest food ingredient to ditch for many people looking to go dairy-free. No need to despair over quitting cheese forever, especially at VegfestUK, as not only can you sample and stock up on a huge amount of cutting-edge vegan cheese replacements from stallholders such as Bute Island Foods, Tyne Chease and Vegusto, but you can also treat yourselves to vegan Mac ‘N Cheese from Lazyboy Kitchen and pizzas and other dairy-free bakeries from Greek Vegan Deli, with all of these companies coming up leaps and bounds in the expanding vegan market. Frozen pizzas will also be available to buy from the One Planet Pizza stall who specialises in ready-made pizzas for those living on the fast lane.

And what about the cakes and traditionally dairy-laden bakery that are staples of Western cuisine? Everyone with a sweet tooth need not miss out on a plant-based diet. At VegfestUK London, be prepared for a delightful collection of vegan cakery from Vegan Sweet Tooth London that not only taste fantastic but also look absolutely gorgeous. Also not to be missed are Vegan versions of Creole bakery from Global Fusion that have wowed many at various vegan food festivals in the past. This is noowhere near the end of the cake tunnel at VegfestUK London, however, with many other stallholders treating you to a truly fantastic vegan cake experience throughout the event – check out the stalls of Cupcakes & Shhht, Elspeth’ s Kitchen and Ms. Cupcake for instance for further sweetness and ideas on vegan cakery.

If you’re not yet convinced that being vegan still gives you room to indulge, head down to the Pitfield Brewery stall for handpulled and keg craft beer, cider, and wine – all vegan of course. For those preferring a health kick in their drinks, don’t miss the freshly squeezed juices and lovingly blended smoothies from Damage Limitation.

As many Vegfesters will testify, eating is simply the tip of the iceberg of the whole VegfestUK experience. Many more activities are in store over the whole weekend of October 21st 22nd at Olympia London, including: over 100 cookery demos and talks with themes such as health, athletes, environment and activism, a Vegan Comedy Corner featuring around 20 vegan comedians, a Kids Area with magic shows and cookery classes for the little ones, a Teen Zone for vegan teens to hang out and socialise, a Mature Zone with teas, cupcakes and talks focusing on vegan topics for the mature, a Main Stage with instrumental music, a Vegan Bodybuilding competition. In particular, the majority of hot food caterers will be located in the Vegan Food Village section of the show with plenty of seating for everyone to chill, enjoy their food and network with like-minded people. Full event programme for the event will be released in October at You can get a taste of the event by watching this video recorded and edited from last year’s event (courtesy of Talk of the Town):

Tickets for this event are available in advance at – advance tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £8 for concessions, subject to booking fees. A limited amount of tickets are also available on the door at £15 for adults and £10 for concessions. Due to the vast popularity of this event, however, the organisers are urging anyone travelling to VegfestUK London 2017 to buy tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

In the meantime, follow the VegfestUK Facebook page for the latest updates on stallholders and special guests present at the event, as well as regular updates on ticket sales.

Big thanks to this year’s show sponsors Bute Island Foods, Vivo Life and Yaoh for helping the event continue into its 5th year in 2017.
