Family-friendly entertainment galore at outdoor vegan festival in Bristol city centre

Family-friendly entertainment galore at outdoor vegan festival in Bristol city centre

| by Editor

There are many components of an uplifting festival, from good food and quality live music to heaves of people and ranks of entertainment, and VegfestUK Bristol – one of Europe’s biggest vegan festivals on May 20-21 at the Amphitheatre – has all of these in abundance, with families encouraged to bring their little ones to sample the delights of a vegan way of life on an amazing weekend right in the city centre of the UK festival hub of Bristol.

This year’s event, which celebrates its 15th anniversary, will possess stacks of entertainers and good energy verberating across the Amphitheatre site, creating a magical weekend for all ages.

Parents looking for ways to inspire their kids to increase their daily intake of fruits and veg will find the Kids Cookery Classes on both days to be a godsend, with dedicated and experienced kids entertainer and vegucator Captain James Tea Cook showcasing simple and fun vegan cooking and kitchen experiments in front of little ones prepared to try creating their own food. Be prepared for wacky, lively and engaging sessions such as electricity-generating battery-farmed bananas, pancake tossing sessions, chocolate ball making, sushi rolling, treasure hunts and much more... A smoothie bike will also be in store for anyone looking to pedal out their own vegan smoothie from plant milks, fruits and vegetables.

Make sure to bring your kids along and let them turn into their favourite animal or character with Borboleta Face Painting. They only use high quality, hypoallergenic vegan paints so no need to worry about something nasty going onto your children's skin. This fun experience isn't for kids only, as we love to make adults smile too... unleash your inner child!

Children will be hard pushed to find a dull moment after their rendezvous with the Captain and getting their faces painted, with a series of balloon making sessions from B Bunny Magic, bubble making from Rainbow Gecko on Sunday, as well as 2-hour clay workshops from Louise Block from 12pm – 2pm on both days.

Go and get free haircuts from Cutthroat the 9ft Pirate Barber or be amazed as he juggles three swords towering above you. The Great Wizard Generic is the very high wizard of bubbles – he and his dragon Pen will cast tales give blessings to all.

And don’t forget to see Fit Up, the fabulously fantastic popup touring circus theatre company, on the Small Circus Stage right by the harbour. With a variety of great street/circus shows, you'll be amazed by Felicity Footloose who juggles knives upside down, plus Mr Pickett and his giant unicycle! Then enter the world of Shockheaded Peter with the circus/theatre show 'Cautionary tales for stupid kids'. Revisit 5 fantastic tales of caution from the dark imagination of Heinrich Hoffman!! With fire juggling, rolla bolla, acrobalance, clowning and of course Shock-headed Peter himself!

Live artiste Rose Popay will be mingling in the crowd dressed as a larger than life character poised with pen ready to immortalise you in pen and ink... dress to impress.

The Hungry Chefs, a couple of larger-than-life Michelin-starred chefs, will be bounding around on big bouncing stilts, using their super sensitive sense of smell to sniff out a new rare delicacy! If you’re lucky they’ll tenderise your shoulders for you with a nice little massage, season you with their giant black crack pepper grinder and garnish you with a little twig of parsley from their mobile herb selection.

The Two Cedrics are engaging and delightful fools from the medieval times who have somehow time traveled to 2017. Incredibly warm and friendly they charm their way into audiences hearts with their ridiculous antics and over excited silliness.

Cometh the evenings, prepare to be mesmerised and enthralled by Jimmy Juggle's display of fire skills, Jo Morris and Julia Vita’s fire hula hooping in a series of entertaining, interactive performances not to be missed.

Lest we forget, VegfestUK has also in store an exotic mix of world vegan cuisines from 15 caterers, 5 all day licensed bars serving vegan alcoholic drinks, 180 stalls packed full of uber-cool vegan produce, free samples and special discounts, nearly 50 speakers discussing the various ins and outs of being vegan, on top of live music from 2 stages... with the likes of Robin S, Danny Rampling, Rozalla, Nicky Holloway, Dub Pistols, The Scribes and ZionRuts headlining the event this year, and no extra charge for staying throughout the day, visitors have every incentive to stay the course and absorb every ounce of positive energy from this mega-party.

Advance tickets are £6 per day and £10 for the whole weekend, plus small booking fees. You can buy yours now at:

A limited amount of tickets are also available on the door at £10 (adults) / £4 (concessions).

Kids under 16 (who are accompanied by adults) get free entry so make sure to bring the little ones along!
