One of UK’s biggest vegan events celebrates 15th anniversary with “Show Me Love” party in Bristol

One of UK’s biggest vegan events celebrates 15th anniversary with “Show Me Love” party in Bristol

| by Editor | Posted in Vlog

It’s been 14 years since the VegfestUK organisers first held a vegan event in Bristol. The first event, in the Watershed on November 1st 2003, started with humble origins with 40 stalls, 1 talks room and 1,200 visitors - this has now grown into a vast outdoors event with 200 stalls and an expected 15,000 visitors and over 50 talks and cookery demos, and a huge array of vegan food, all celebrating the vegan way of life.

But VegfestUK Bristol is perhaps best known for its outstanding musical lineups with a host of top acts having headlined the Main Stage in the last decade or so, including the likes of Happy Mondays, New Order’s Peter Hook, The Special’s Neville Staples, Caravan Palace, LTJ Bukem, Stereo MC’s, and many others.

This year’s Saturday night party - called the “Show Me Love” party - features Robin S live, whose hit in 1993 song “Show Me Love” sold literally millions worldwide. Robin S is on stage after Danny Rampling - one of the original founders of house music in the UK - and the pair are also joined by Rozalla, whose also number one hit “Everybody’s Free” is still a massive dance floor fave across the globe.

But it’s not just veganism and dance music that VegfestUK will be celebrating this year. In a post-Brexit, post-Trump world, VegfestUK organisers have reached out to refugee and migrant groups to offer them free tickets to the “Show Me Love” party.

“Veganism is a progressive social justice movement that aims to end the use of animals wherever possible,” said VegfestUK organisers. “But veganism includes human rights as well as animal rights. The original founders of modern day veganism were conscientious objectors of the Second World War, and veganism was founded as an extension of a peace movement not only to animals but also to people. We want to make sure that everybody is included at our event. It’s a challenging time in the UK for refugees and migrants especially, but all of us have a lot more in common than we have apart. Refugees and migrants are welcome at our events and we will be extending free tickets to as many as possible.”

The “Show Me Love” party is kindly sponsored by Bristol-based wholesalers Essential Trading Co-operative, and the UK’s original hemp company Yaoh, and is hosted by VegfestUK in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Animal Aid, one of the UK’s biggest vegan campaigning groups.
