Interview with ecofeminist author and VegfestUK London speaker Carol J. Adams

2018-09-29
| by Editor | Posted in VegfestUK London 2018

In this blog, we catch up with Carol J. Adams, one of the distinguished keynote speakers at VegfestUK London, and renowned ecofeminist author of publications including ‘The Sexual Politics of Meat’, ‘Ecofeminism’ and ‘Protest Kitchen’.

Carol will be speaking on the Saturday October 27th at VegfestUK London, at Olympia Conference Centre (Level 3 of Olympia Central), with book signings of Carol’s publications available throughout the day.

Animal Rights Zone, in conjunction with VegfestUK, recently interviewed Carol in depth about her current views on the animal rights movement, and you can listen to this podcast here. Meanwhile, we took the opportunity to ask Carol a few quick questions about her upcoming appearance at VegfestUK London.

What prompted you to go vegan in the first place?

Here’s an animation about how I became a vegan – the animation was created by the incredible artist Suzi Gonzalez.

Any current / new projects you're working on at the moment?

I’ve just finished giving the inaugural Tom Regan lecture, in which I discussed ethics and exceptionalism. I am working on moving it toward publication. I will be co-editing an anthology on veganism and cycling, so if there are some vegan cyclists, please touch base with me! With Lori Gruen and Lynda Birke, we are working on a book on disability and animals that builds on the phenomenal work of Sunaura Taylor in Beasts of Burden: Animal and Disability Liberation. And my latest book, co-authored with Virginia Messina, has just been published!  Protest Kitchen!!! Find out more at the link below:

How much are you looking forward to your upcoming visit to the UK?

Incredibly excited! I’ll be speaking at a feminist conference in Manchester, the FiLia Conference the week before, and then at Oxford University, and then I get to join you all at the London VegFest.

What’s your favourite vegan recipes?

Some of my favorite recipes are contained in various of my books, and I post some on my website. (Check out the feta tofu that is versatile.)  Here’s a recipe I created that everyone has loved since I started making it in 2010:

Carol Adams’ sessions at VegfestUK London 2018

Carol will be giving 3 talks as well as being on a panel in the Radical Veganism room, located on Level 3 of Olympia Central.

All sessions will be announced in October on this page here.

Consistent Anti-Oppression Bill

Carol, along with other leading animal rights experts, has helped initiate the compilation of this new bill, which you can view at the link here. Carol will be introducing this bill at the show on Saturday morning – time TBC.
