Vegan Yogis Take over one of the UK's Biggest Vegan Festival VegfestUK at Olympia London

Vegan Yogis Take over one of the UK's Biggest Vegan Festival VegfestUK at Olympia London

| by Yogific | Posted in VegfestUK London 2018

Vegan and yoga community organisation Yogific is collaborating with VegfestUK in bringing visitors the Yoga and Qi Gong Hub at the upcoming event at Olympia London on October 27-28, and in this guest blog, Yogific discusses what’s in store in this new featured area as well as the connection between veganism, ahimsa and yoga.

Exciting news for all Yogis! VegfestUK that welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every year is going to launch a Yoga and Qi Gong Hub at this year’s festival at Olympia London.

The two-day fiesta of all things vegan, which will take place on the weekend of 27-28th of October, will also see a celebration of Yoga as visitors will get to try a variety of classes run by vegan Yoga instructors. Besides Yoga, there will be Tai Chi and Qi Gong sessions too! The best thing is that there is no separate charge to attend the sessions in the Hub. You can attend all Yoga classes on your normal Vegfest entry ticket. Isn’t that amazing! You can see the full timetable of classes here.

We, Yogific, are delighted to partner with VegfestUK and spread awareness about the many benefits of Yoga.

Wondering what Yoga has to do with veganism?

To put it simply, it's impossible to become a true Yogi without becoming vegan. How? Read on...

Yoga = Ahimsa = Veganism

The philosophy of Yoga roots for a vegan lifestyle. One of the most ancient texts on Yoga, Yogasturas of Patanjali, talks about eightfold path where Yamas (moral restraints) precede postures (asanas). The first yama is ahimsa (non-violence). Is Ahimsa (non-violence) only limited to the prohibition of the obvious use of physical force against a human? Shouldn’t it also apply to our behaviour with animals? It’s time to take Ahimsa to the plate.

Billions of animals are killed, abused and tortured for meat and dairy – this amounts as violence – the difference here is that we pay someone to do it for us every time we buy meat and dairy. By going vegan, we can stop the circle of violence against these sentient beings.

Yoga means ‘union’ – to unite your mind, body and soul or to unite your individual consciousness to the supreme consciousness or being in oneness with the universe. How can we achieve such a unity without respecting the living beings who co-inhabit the world with us?

And if you are now considering to go vegan, Vegfest is the place to begin. You will find over 275 stalls selling vegan products, talks on veganism, activities for children, vegan cookery demos and lots of yummy vegan food under one big roof of Olympia London. It is really easy to live a vegan, cruelty-free life - visit Vegfest on Oct 27th and 28th to find out everything that you need to know about going vegan. Buy tickets now!
