Season's greetings from the VegfestUK team

Season's greetings from the VegfestUK team

As we near the end of 2018, the organisers of the VegfestUK vegan festivals take the opportunity to extend our gratitude to our supporters, stallholders, speakers, visitors, volunteers, contractors, and the vegan community at large, and extend good wishes for the holiday season and the advancing New Year.

Here we take the opportunity to reflect on the efforts of a massive year in 2018, having put on 3 big shows in Brighton, Bristol and London, and look ahead to 2019.

VegfestUK Brighton 2018

Our 10th year at the Brighton Centre earlier in 2018 drew around 8,000 attendees in total, with a number of exciting features including the return of the FxEctive Factor vegan talent contest, the Veganuary Party, on top of around 230 stalls with 18 caterers, a series of talks, cookery demos, comedy, kids activities, live music, panels and more... The event attracted extensive media coverage from the likes of Brighton & Hove Independent, WhatsOnEvents Sussex, The Tab, Chichester Observer, BN1 Magazine, Juice 107.2 FM, Eastbourne Voice, ABC MagazinePhoenix FMFeast MagazineNatural Product News, and many more media outlets.

VegfestUK Bristol 2018

Meanwhile, our first event at Ashton Gate stadium (home of Bristol City FC and Bristol Bears rugby club) drew around 10,000 attendees over the May Bank Holiday Weekend. The daytime event consisted of around 220 stalls, 18 caterers (including an in-house restaurant and the stadium’s own pizzeria), 3 big talks rooms, cookery demos, 2 live stages of live acoustic music, a kids area and an activists corner, whilst in the evening attention shifted to a number of headliners including the likes of Judge Jules and Baby D, plus entertainment from the Comedy and a couple of other entertainment lounges. Media shoutouts include the likes of Destination BristolSomerset LiveBishopston MattersBristol Living MagazineThe Bristol MagazineUjima Radio 98fm, The TelegraphFoodlover MagazineBristol BitesBristol Property Live, plus many others.

VegfestUK London 2018

Finally, our vegan extravaganza event at Olympia London on the last weekend of October drew around 14,500 attendees overall, with an extra exhibition hall on Level 2 of Olympia Central welcoming visitors to a mix of wellbeing-themed activities including talks on Permaculture, Fitness and the Living Raw Zone, plus Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong sessions, a Free Gifts stall and a Chillout Music area. In the meantime, Levels 1 and 3 of Olympia Central plus Olympia West upper played host to other absorbing features such as around 280 stalls, 26 caterers, plus around 15 other featured areas, offering visitors an unprecedented amount of space and activities to spend the whole weekend at Vegfest. The wealth of media coverage prior to the event includes the likes of One Green Planet, Daily Mail, London Post, The Enquirer, Food Festival Finder, Natural Products, Hello Magazine, House of Coco, Viestra, Britain Magazine, Londonist, West London Living amongst plenty of others.

Word from the organisers

Reflecting on a captivating albeit at times challenging year, the organisers added, “We would like to take this opportunity to express heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all our supporters for keeping us going, whether you’re a stallholder, sponsor, speaker, entertainer, media partner, visitor, volunteer, contractor, venue staff – you have all contributed hugely to 3 massively successive events, which we look back with fondness. Putting on these shows is never easy and takes a huge amount of undertaking, and especially this year it hasn’t been plain sailing for various reasons. So once again big thanks to everyone for backing us through thick and thin, and we hope to see many of you again in 2019.”

Looking ahead in 2019

We’re thrilled to announce the return of 2 of our shows in Brighton and London in 2019:

VegfestUK Brighton – March 23rd 24th 2019 @ Brighton Centre

VegfestUK London – October 26th 27th 2019 @ Olympia London

VegfestUK Brighton is already on sale with currently around 80 exhibitors booked in. Expect around 230 stalls come March 2019. We’re also thrilled to announce some new additions to both our events in 2019, including:

Animal Think Tank –  a brand-new series of talks and panels focusing on 'how' a powerful, anti-speciesist movement can be built that can achieve Animal Justice, and

Plant-Based Health – with talks run by non-profit organisation Plant-Based Health Professionals, who are dedicated to the promotion of plant-based nutrition and other lifestyle interventions for optimal health and well-being.

The organisers added, “VegfestUK Brighton continues to focus largely on grassroots activism, the vegan community and growing the vegan movement, prioritising campaigners and small vegan traders. VegfestUK London likewise gives us the opportunity to explore the many tenets of veganism as a philosophy or way of life that seeks to exclude the use of animals wherever practicable or possible. We remain committed to supporting a growing vegan movement in the UK that centres justice for animals and our Brighton and London shows will continue to reflect this.”

We have further exciting plans beyond these 2 shows to announce in the New Year so stay tuned to our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @VegfestUK for the latest news.
