Performance and Panels at VegfestUK Brighton 2019

Performance and Panels at VegfestUK Brighton 2019

| by Editor | Posted in VegfestUK Brighton 2019

VegfestUK events are renowned not only for the sumptuous variety of vegan food and drinks, and the breadth and depth of subjects discussed in the talks, cookery demos, workshops and panels, but also their entertainment value over the years, and this year’s Brighton event will consist of a series of renewed performance sessions that will keep everyone thrilled and inspired right to the wire.

The Performances section sees the debut of the “Sofa So Good with Karin and Mike” variety show series, with VegfestUK presenter Karin Ridgers and VegfestUK regular comedy compere Mike Kelson playing host to a mix of celebrities, musicians and comedians. They will be engaging in a quiz and chat show format, with musicians first playing their favourite songs, followed by a short stand-up comedy session and chat with another guest, then other guests having to guess correctly a total of 3 cover versions of a song by the same musician.

We’re elated to welcome on board a fine selection of celebrity guests for the variety show series, including actor Dan Richardson, actress and fashion expert Kay Lovelle (formerly of Big Brother), actor and animal advocate Peter Egan, presenter Jasmine Harman (from A Place in The Sun), musician Jeremy Cunningham (bass player in The Levellers), fitness expert and animal rescuer Annie Connolly, original hunt saboteur Dave Wetton, and singer-songwriter Tally Spear. They will have the pleasure of sitting alongside rock guitarist David Camilli, pianist and composer Ian Haywood, blues guitarist Andy Prince and fiddle-guitar duo Mitchell & Vincent, as well as regular Vegfest stand-up comedians Dave Chawner, Adele Cliff, Sonja Quita Doubleday, Drew Cameron, Adrian George Nicolae, Kahn Johnson, Ishi Khan-Jackson and Luke Poulton.

There will also be a Skincare Pamper Party, with a fun yet luxurious organic and vegan facial to be demonstrated by Rawgaia Superfood Skincare founder and Miss Superfood Jessica Michael. Jessica will show you, step by step, how to perform her signature organic facial, and you will be doing the facial together as a tribe. You can select which superfood skincare products you would like to use as Jessica will have her full collection there on the day, including MSM Organic Beauty, Organic Hemp Glow and Organic Goji Goddess.

Adding to the thrills from the performances are a number of educational talks and panels focusing on vegan advocacy and outreach.

First, in an interview with Maria Chiorando, head of written content at Plant Based News, author Chas Newkey-Burden will discuss what it’s like to write about veganism in the mainstream media. He will share the story behind viral articles like 'Dairy is Scary' published by The Guardian, what it's like advocating for veganism on live radio and the emotional toll of animal activism.

Check out the keynote speech on trauma in animal advocacy from special guest Dr. Casey Taft, Professor of Psychiatry, co-founder of Vegan Publishers, who will be travelling from Boston, USA, to discuss the impacts of trauma on our advocacy and ourselves, and what we can do to heal from trauma and reduce its negative impacts.

Meanwhile, the panel on Maximizing the Impact of the Animal Rights Movement will cover a variety of challenging topics that animal advocates face, with the goal being to help us to be more thoughtful about our advocacy, as individuals and as a movement. The panel will be moderated by vegan activist Jeremy Hess, with panellists including Dr. Taft alongside Dylan Taylor (co-organiser of DxE Brighton), Brad Simmons (Assistant Director, of Anonymous for the Voiceless), Alex Douglas (Outreach and Self-Care Specialist) and Mark Eaton (FRIEND Farm Animal Sanctuary)

Just before the Sunday part of the event opens to the public, the Vegan Business Networking session provides an opportunity for stallholders to network with like-minded entrepreneurs who wish to make a difference by their vegan products and services.
