Brighton to host its First 'March for the Animals' on June 29th 2019

Brighton to host its First 'March for the Animals' on June 29th 2019

2019-06-13
| by Marc Gurney | Posted in Vegan News

Brighton March for the Animals 2019 will unite animal lovers from across the South East and beyond, on Saturday June 29th 2019 at 12pm in Preston Park, Brighton.

Organised by Brighton Vegan Activists (BVA), this family-friendly day of action is a first ‘March for the Animals’ for the city. It will bring together like-minded people from all walks of life, representing a wide range of passions and causes.

Hundreds of animal rights advocates will take to the streets of Brighton. They’ll march past the seaside city’s famous landmarks, waving placards, educating onlookers, fundraising and shouting out loud and proud for the animals.

Vegan activists will march in solidarity alongside animal rights campaigners, plant food pioneers, hunt sabs and more. It’s a day to put our differences aside and unite with a common purpose and goal: animal liberation.

Marchers are invited to create bold and hard-hitting signs to drive this important message home. We’re expecting children and adults dressed as their favourite animals, influential ‘celebrity’ vegan activists leading the procession and there will be a selection of information stalls to browse.

A hotbed of animal rights activism, Brighton is packed with environmentally conscious people who understand the impact of animal agriculture on our planet. 2019 has already been a huge year for activism and Brighton is at the forefront of this compassionate revolution.

The city recently hosted the 10th hugely popular VegfestUK, attracting 8,500 visitors from all over the world. Meanwhile, the national press has been packed with stories featuring the tireless direct action and creative advocacy efforts of our committed local vegan community.

In recent years Brighton has become home to many activist groups. These include Brighton Vegan Activists, Brighton Animal Rights, Direct Action Everywhere (DxE Brighton), Sussex Animal Save, the Earthlings Experience, Anonymous for the Voiceless (AV) and more. While these groups may have differing opinions about the best way to deliver positive change, what unites us is of the utmost importance: a desire to create a world where all conscious beings are respected equally and valued as individuals, not commodities.

Society is changing rapidly, but the injustices animals face remains a threat to humanity and the environment we live in. Some fifty-six billion land animals are still enslaved and killed every year to satisfy our taste buds; right now, thousands of animals are trapped in cruel, uncaring research laboratories; animals are dying in the name of entertainment and our planet is facing an unprecedented environmental crisis. We must keep pushing the positive momentum forward.

We will show the world that the people of Brighton want total animal liberation, and we want it now.

BVA Organiser Marc Gurney said that the idea for the event came after Brighton activists marched with 10,000 animal lovers at the Official Animal Rights March 2018 in London. It has quadrupled in size since its launch in 2016 and Marc is confident that Brighton’s march will also grow to become a popular and influential annual event.

He said: “It was inspiring to see how many people became active for the animals following the London marches and we want to achieve the same in Brighton.

“We are lucky enough to live in a green, forward-thinking city with a thriving community of vegan activists and people who promote the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. But we also want this event to be as inclusive as possible, to attract ALL animal lovers and to spark lots of debate and further action.”

Brighton - it's time to get active for the animals. Join us at Preston Park from 12pm before the procession makes its way across town, ending at Brunswick Park. For further information please visit the Facebook page www.facebook.com/brightonmarchfortheanimals
