VegfestUK London and Plant Powered Expo - looking forward to 2020 and beyond

VegfestUK London and Plant Powered Expo - looking forward to 2020 and beyond

| by Editor | Posted in Plant Powered Expo 2020, VegfestUK London 2019

Without a doubt, these are very exciting times for the vegan community. With a huge surge in vegan products, vegan businesses, vegan events, vegan celebrities and vegan people everywhere, veganism is definitely a hot topic in the UK.

In many respects, VegfestUK, which came into existence in 2003 with the Bristol Vegan Fayre, has fulfilled the original aim of helping to introduce the benefits of a vegan way of life to the general public, and helping veganism gain a foothold in mainstream society. With these successes in mind, what’s next for our events?

Many will know that we are no longer doing our events for now in Bristol and Brighton. Our Bristol event ran for 16 consecutive years from 2003 - 2018, and our Brighton event which started in 2009 ran for 11 years until this year. Although there are some provisional plans to bring events back into these cities in the future, currently we’re working on 2 shows and focusing on these 2 shows going forward - namely VegfestUK London (now in its 7th year), and our new event Plant Powered Expo at Olympia National on February 1st 2nd 2020. Both events are planned to run for years to come.

VegfestUK London

VegfestUK London 2019, now in its 7th year, is the UK’s leading vegan event, & is set to attract 350 exhibitors, 200 speakers, 25 features and 15,000 attendees over 2 days. Held at the iconic Olympia London, and currently spread over 3 floors, the event is in many respects the flagship UK vegan community event, with some of us going back 2 decades or more. The priority for VegfestUK London has always been and continues to be the growth and unity of the vegan community in the UK, by supporting independent vegan businesses, campaigns, charities, individuals and activists. The majority of visitors to VegfestUK London are already vegan (over 80%).

The Level 3 Conference facilities at VegfestUK London 2019 focus primarily on Animal Rights & Activism, Movement Building, Radical Veganism, Vegan Activists Support, New Vegan Support, and some exciting new additions for 2019, including the Sanctuaries Fair (an indoor funfair raising funds for animal charities), a Wildlife Summit (hosted by Animal Aid), and a Vegan Climate Change Summit incorporating activists from many different campaign groups.

The event also features a new area for 2019 - the Natural Therapy Zone on Level 2, with a strong focus on health and wellbeing, including new features such as Holistic Health Hub, Plant Based Health zone, Veganic Growing, Yoga, Therapies and Lifestyle presentations. Level 1 retains its emphasis on shopping and stalls, with the renowned Vegan Food Village featuring 25 vegan caterers with influences from across the globe, the Cookery Demos theatre, the Art of Compassion Exhibition, live music from the Foodies Stage and a new and expanded Fitness area with talks on both strength and endurance.

Plant Powered Expo

Plant Powered Expo (PPEx) in early 2020 is a new show at Olympia National, and focuses on new vegans and people trying out a vegan way of life or a plant-based diet for the first time. The dates of the show (February 1st 2nd 2020) positions itself just after Veganuary 2020 when an estimated half a million UK residents will be trying a plant-based diet for the first time. PPEx is geared very much towards helping people learn about the basics of a plant based diet, including classes for making vegan options such as nut mylks, cheeses and seitan, extended cookery demo areas, an entire area dedicated to tasting sessions, and talks focusing on Health, Nutrition, Fitness and Environment. Plant Powered Expo is also home to The Vegan Academy, featuring some of the history and some of the pioneers of veganism and plant based diets, an introduction to animal rights theory, and some pointers for new vegans to continue their journey further into the vegan way of life.

PPEx has a strong focus on brands and products, and will incorporate bigger brands as well as new product features, and has a more focused Trade & Media influence designed to showcase new vegan products to a rapidly developing market. PPEx has a clear vegan education remit, but less of a campaigns and activism presence than VegfestUK London, whilst still including some elements of activism within the event, including an introduction to activism in the UK. Part of the proceeds from this event will be donated to animal sanctuaries in the UK. The majority of visitors to PPEx are likely to be not yet vegan or very new to veganism, or trying out a plant based diet for the first time.

All of us at VegfestUK (located in Bristol) are looking forward to welcoming many more visitors, exhibitors and speakers to our events over the foreseeable future, and remain dedicated to all things vegan. We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude and thanks to the many many people who have helped us and worked with us over the last two decades. We look forward to many more.
